Unique experience

I’ve always wanted to see the whirling dervishes live, and this was the perfect chance. The ceremony was beautiful, calm, and really meditative. I couldn’t believe how long the dancers whirled without becoming dizzy. It was amazing to watch. The music and singing made it even more special. I even got to taste traditional sweet sherbet. Definitely a unique experience I’ll never forget!

Hypnotic and beautiful performance

Loved this show! The dervishes spinning in their flowing robes were hypnotic, and the live music made the whole experience magical. It perfectly added to the surreal atmosphere of Cappadocia. There’s no better place to watch this show, honestly. We arranged for the pickup, so the whole evening was completely enjoyable. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cappadocia.

DESCRIPTION

Dervish Show Cappadocia

WHIRLING DERVISH CEREMONY

Complete your Cappadocia journey with dance, music, and traditional Turkish instruments. Experience the Whirling Dervish ceremony, a captivating Sufi ritual. The ceremony is inspired by the 13th-century poet and mystic Rumi. Watch the Dervishes spin in a symbolic dance representing devotion, love, and a journey toward inner balance.

THE DANCE AND ITS MEANING

The spinning of the dancers is more than a show; it represents the planets moving around the sun and the continuous flow of life. Each turn is meditative, showing the letting go of the ego and moving toward peace and harmony. The belt the dancers wear, called a kemer, symbolizes the connection between the body and spiritual energy. Their flowing robes and tall hats reflect purity and humility. Each movement has a deep meaning. One hand is raised toward the sky to receive blessings, while the other reaches toward the earth to share them.

WHO PERFORMS THE CEREMONY

The dancers are trained members of the Mevlevi Order, a Sufi brotherhood founded by Rumi’s followers. Known as Dervishes, they dedicate years to mastering the Sema. They train in tekkes (Sufi lodges), where they spend years learning spinning, prayers, and music. The ceremony is accompanied by live Sufi music, creating a calm and meditative atmosphere.

WHY IT’S SPECIAL

The Sema ceremony is a living tradition and a piece of history. Watching the dancers spin in white robes and tall hats is mesmerizing. Every part of the ceremony has meaning, from the gestures to the music, showing devotion, humility, and harmony. The tradition is recognized by UNESCO for its cultural and spiritual importance.

EASY TRANSFERS & LOCAL EXPERIENCE

Your ticket includes optional round-trip hotel transfers for a hassle-free visit. The ceremony lasts about 45-60 minutes, with spinning, music, and prayer creating a calm and memorable experience. End your experience with a glass of traditional Turkish sherbet.
